Program Overview 
‘Art In The Park’ is a cultural enrichment program for children and young adults.  The program seeks to collaborate with Friends of Keney Park, talented local children and young adults, local professional artists, community scholars and advisors in the creation of a five-acre Art Park located in Keney Park.  It is designed to create a center of attention in Keney Park and to reflect, showcase and integrate the multi-cultural diversity of the Hartford area.  

The creation of ‘Art In The Park’ includes the following spaces:
1. A children’s art gallery and museum
2. Workshop spaces for children and young adults, including young people with disabilities
3. Performing spaces indoor and outdoor for the performing arts
4. Seminar spaces for hosting large international groups
5. Large gazebos for family interaction
6. Eight concession stands
7. Eight souvenir/memorabilia shops

The potential of ‘Art In The Park’
1. The children’s art gallery/museum is a repository for children’s art, with specific focus on the Hartford community.
2. Art In The Park’s international children’s art gallery/museum is to host children’s art from Africa, the Caribbean, South, Central and 
        North America, Europe and Asia on a revolving continuing basis.  
3. It is a unique educational attraction that will bring tourists and potential talents from countries around the world.
4. The program plans bring together local, national and international artists and artisan in a variety of art disciplines to host special 
        workshops for children and young adults as well as persons with disabilities.

Project Goals and Objectives
To bring community members and tourists to Keney Park 
To use art as a unifying force in community building
To become the world renown hub for children’s art 
To hone the skills and creative energies of community youths including persons with disabilities
To become a hub for the creative energies of community youths
To create jobs for young people
To showcase and document Hartford’s diverse ethnicity 

Program Details
- Building community and working with children and young adults are the cornerstones of this program
- The creation of a Children’s Art Gallery and Art Park with outdoors and indoors display, activity and performing facilities 
- The program will represent the vibrant diversity of Hartford’s ethnic communities through art, videotaped interviews, photography, and dance with community collaboration
- This program aims to uplift morale, build self-esteem, nurture skills and appreciate cultural differences between community members through shared cultural expressions/productions
- Workshops for children and young adults to learn traditional art forms are ongoing
- Specialty art and craft workshop by international artists/artisans are periodic

Requirements:

¦ 30,000 – 45,000 sq. ft. indoor gallery/workshop/performance building space
¦ Art supplies for ongoing workshops
¦ Supplies for specialty workshops
¦ Murals, sculptures, outdoor lighting and landscaping – designed and constructed as a collaborative between community children/young adults,    
        special advisors and professional artisans
